Some 80 Edwardians, old boys and girls of the King Edward VII School in Taiping, launched an interactive website today to bring together former students around the world. The group of old boys and girls, who call themselves "Old Tigers" or "OE", gave a grand welcome to a Grand Old Tiger, Datuk Dr. Abdul Shukor Abdullah, president of the Kuala Lumpur OE Association.Shukor said the website would tap into what was happening to the association and provide an avenue where fond memories could be shared.
"We want our members to own this site and actively contribute to its content so that it will truly be built by Tigers for Tigers," Shukor said.Among the VIP alumni present were Media Prima Berhad chairman Datuk Abdul Mutalib Datuk Seri Mohamed Razak, New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd chairman Jen (R) Tan Sri Mohd Ghazali Che Mat, and retired Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Seri Yuen Yuet Leng.Ghazali said the school had given him many fond memories."During my service in the army, the ‘Tiger spirit’ lived on in me and the lessons learnt such as mixing with different races and working together as a team helped in my career and made me who I am today," he said.
Ghazali hoped more Tigers would come together and continue their "journey of friendship"."Many of us have stuck together till today. Some have left us, but they will always be in our memory."Other prominent old Edwardians include former Olympic hurdler Ishtiaq Mubarak, Asian track queen Junaidah Aman, former Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, and director-general of Education Tan Sri Wan Mohamed Zahid Noordin. The school will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2008.The Edwardians’ 39th annual reunion dinner will be held at the Legend Inn in Taiping on June 24.Old Edwardians can contact S.A.M. CONSAL...for prof. Librarians
The Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL) was founded in Singapore in 1970 in response to a growing sense of Southeast Asian identity, fostered particularly by the formation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The initiative in forming CONSAL was taken by the Library Associations of Singapore and Malaysia, due to their common origin and long history of close cooperation.
Representatives from the library associations of Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and South Vietnam ratified its first constitution and the first CONSAL participants came from these seven countries. To date, CONSAL has 10 members which includes the library associations and librarians of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (read more)
