The White Album

The Beatles is a double album, released by The Beatles in 1968. It is often referred to as The White Album, with reference to its predominantly plain white sleeve, which was designed by pop artist Richard Hamilton. The album was released at the height of the Beatles' popularity, and is often hailed as one of the major accomplishments in popular music.

This album, called simply "The Beatles," and known as the "White Album," is surely The Beatles' most disparate album. It came at a time in 1968 when The Beatles were in their "psychedelic" phase, and going through enormous tensions among themselves.

The White Album is the Beatles' best-selling album at 19-times platinum and the ninth-best-selling album of all time in the United States. With this album, each of the four band members began to showcase the range and depth of their own individual songwriting talents and styles that would be carried over to their eventual solo careers. Many of the songs here are personal and self-referencing. In fact, many songs on the "White Album" were originally conceived during the group's ill-fated visit to India (http://www.thebeatlesinrishikesh.com/gallery/main_gallery.html)

The Beatles was the last Beatles album to be released with a unique, alternate mono mix, albeit one issued only in the UK. The album's cover was designed by Richard Hamilton, a notable pop artist who had organised a Duchamp retrospective at the Tate Gallery the previous year. The White Album's album cover has been very influential.

In 1997 The White Album was named the 10th greatest album of all time in a 'Music of the Millennium' poll conducted by HMV, Channel 4, The Guardian and Classic FM. In Q magazine readers placed it at number 17, while in 2003 the TV network VH1 placed it at number 11. In 2003 it was named #10 in the list of Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This is some of the Obladi-Oblada's lyrics,

PEACE: KL Initiatives Against War

THE 14-point Kuala Lumpur Initiative to Criminalise War:

·WARS increasingly involve the killing of innocent people and are, therefore, abhorrent and criminal;
·KILLINGS in war are as criminal as the killings within societies in times of peace;
·SINCE killings in peace time are subjected to domestic law of crime, killings in war must be subjected to the international law of crimes;
·ALL commercial, financial, industrial and scientific activities that aid and abet war should be criminalised;
·ALL national leaders who initiate aggression must be subjected to the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court;
·ALL nations must strengthen the resolve to accept the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and institute methods to settle international disputes by peaceful means and to renounce war;
·ARMED force shall not be used except when authorised by a Resolution passed by two-thirds majority of the total membership of the General Assembly of the UN;
·ALL legislators and all members of Government must affirm their belief in peace, and pledge to strive for peace;
·POLITICAL parties all over the world must include peace as one of their principal objectives;
·NON-GOVERNMENTAL organisations committed to the promotion of peace should be set up in all nations;
·PUBLIC servants and professionals must promote peace and campaign actively against war;
·THE media must actively oppose war and the incitement to war and consciously promote the peaceful settlement of disputes;
·ENTERTAINMENT media must cease to glorify war and violence and should cultivate the ethos of peace;
·ALL religious leaders must condemn war and promote peace.

Give peace a chance...

"Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us
Above us only sky Imagine all the peopleLiving for today... Imagine there's no country It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion tooImagine all the people Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only oneI hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessionsI wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of manImagine all the people Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one.... " - john Lennon
