Name the Malaysian submarine and win RM5,000

Kuala Lumpur: Name the submarine and win a prize. This is what the Royal Malaysian Navy is offering in a contest for Malaysians to name the country's first two submarines, which are due to be delivered in 2009. "The navy is giving the honour to the public as the Scorpene-class submarines will be the country's first and the navy's strategic assets", said Lt. Masliza Maaris, Defence Ministry's navy headquarters public relations officer.

Entry forms for the contest can be downloaded at the Royal Navy website. Closing date for entries is Dec. 30, 2006. The competition is open to all Malaysians and contestants can send as many entries as they want. Joint entries are allowed.

Contestants must provide background information as well as the rationale for their suggested names for the submarines. Come and join the contest!!!

Get your boss to like you

The best way to get into the good books of your boss is to be a loyal, honest and efficient worker. It feels good to be praised by your boss. It is even better if your ideas are accepted by him or her and implemented in the company. Wouldn't you feel over the moon if your boss regarded you as a key employee in the company and implemented almost every proposal of yours? A promotion and a bigger pay cheque would be easier to justify. But how are you going to make it all happen? These are eight simple steps you can follow:

1. Make every meeting with your boss worth his while
2. Choose the appropriate mode of communication
3. Observe proper communication etiquette
4. Important topics and issues come first
5. Be constructive and inspirational
6. Provide alternative solutions
7. Bosses are not always right
8. Adopt an open and honest attitude

Many employees hope to get into the good books of their bosses, as they view it as a way to get promotions and pay raises. However, bosses value employees who possess "real substance" rather than merely perform lip service. To be valued highly by your boss or the company, you have to do it the right way.
