It was a fitting end to an electrifying evening when Daniel Lee Chee Hun was crowned Malaysian Idol tonight.He beat Norhanita Hamzah, popularly known as Nita, to become the second winner of the TV reality show, aired live over 8tv and TV3.
Both produced sterling performances at the Genting Arena of Stars but the SMS votes from viewers gave Daniel the advantage.The 23-year-old Daniel will follow the footsteps of Jacqueline Victor, who won last year’s contest by a landslide, and will move on to a recording contract with Sony BMG.
Beating 9,000 other hopefuls in a four-month competition, Daniel, from Alor Star, looked composed when the results were announced in front of a capacity crowd.Will he also rise to the occasion? Only time will tell but, for now,
Daniel is enjoying the moment. Daniel rendered Rick Price’s Heaven Knows, Broery Marantika’s Angin Malam and Mimpi.The contest started with auditions in Kuching on April 9-10. The first episode of Malaysian Idol season two, was shown on May 27.

I wish to congratulate Daniel for winning MI2. This talented yet modest young man has touched our hearts. His creative interpretations and interesting performances have captured our imagination. He has soldiered with quiet confidence and proven that he can roll with the punches. This young man is as gracious as he is tenacious. Daniel works hard and never gives up. We have witnessed him rising like a pure lotus from the depths of murky waters. What a wonderful role model he makes for our youth!
